Workshop 3: Creating Activities that Build Momentum

You know how to explain the thing, but that jump from knowing your shit to helping someone else be able to implement feels like a giant chasm that you’re set to fall through.

And you KNOW that just watching you isn’t gonna get anybody doing the thing. (Maybe cause you’ve sat through one of those).

You'd be right. As humans, our memories aren't great, so if we want clients to remember and implement, we need them to take action with us.

Which means you have to build the thing they'll do. Not a video. Not a workbook page at the end of a module. The actual task where they take what you just said and run it on their own business while you're with them.

So let’s help your clients do the work while they’re with you instead of trying to “implement” on their own.

What do we actually DO?

You come to the room with an outline of your course and at least one spot where clients need to DO something. In that 90 minutes we build that whole activity: the task itself, the instructions you'll give, what they produce when they're done, and how you both know they got it right.

What you walk away with:

  • One activity built out (task, instructions, output, and the check) and ready for you to create the content that supports it

  • An activity anatomy template you run on every other one

  • A system for going from "here's a step in my outline" to "here's what they actually do here"

  • The confidence that you’re creating an activity that will actually get them to implement.

*We’ll be doing hot seats during, so you might even walk away with feedback.

Why You?

  • You’ve got an outline that feels right cause you know what goes where, but you can’t figure out what people actually DO there

    • you’ve written “watch video and take notes” and called it an activity OR

    • you keep adding a workbook page at the end of a step and assuming it’ll work OR

    • you added some “reflection questions” and called it good.

  • You want them building it in the course instead of trying to implement after the fact.

  • You don’t want to just give information. You want your course clients to actually use it.

Why Me?

First of all, because this works. When Amoya and I flipped her outline to lead with the task instead of the information it felt easier for her AND it got her clients doing the thing:

"I went from overwhelmed with creating my Academy to taking action”

Secondly, I've got the instructional design background and the PhD, and I've used both to do grant funded research and teach over 3000 adult online students across 7 different schools.

I see dead courses before they’re dead.

Why NOT You?

  • You don't have an outline yet. You need to know the steps before you can build what happens during those steps. That’s Workshop 2 of the series on October 22 (missed it? We can get it done in a strategy session).

  • You want this done for you instead of learning to do it yourself. That’s legit. A strategy session is an hour with me, and you'll walk out with more than you'd get here. $500.
