A course with this badge has gone through an audit and update specifically looking for elements of good learning design backed by learning science - specifically the things we know about how adults learn online. You can check out the checklist I use to do the audit.
After, I do the audit, have my clients fix any issues, and then do the audit again to ensure the course is the best it can be right now.
Hey there! I’m Dr. Catrina Mitchum, and if you landed here, then you’re trying to figure out if the course you're looking at is just gonna be another digital dust collector. The badge is intended to help you determine if you can trust that this was created for you to get results.
You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers. Don’t see your answer? Feel free to submit your question at the bottom of this page.
I've been teaching online at the college level since 2009. When I designed my first online course, my college didn't have instructional designers. So I became one through experience, certifications, and graduate classes. I've been designing and redesigning courses based on learning science since then, getting a PhD in rhetoric, writing, and digital studies. My dissertation is on retention in online writing course, from the student perspective. The perspective of the learner has always been why I do what I do. I have an award winning textbook on designing online writing courses. What does that mean for you? That my stamp of approval means that this was designed for your success. If you want to check out my experience, I'm on LinkedIn and here's a copy of my CV.
This course has been designed for learning. I read the research on adult learning, on designing learning experiences, and I create and improve them all the time. You do need to show up and do the work. I used my background and experience in instructional design to make sure this course was designed for you to be as successful as possible. It's action based, and I only work with clients who give a shit about their own clients' outcomes. That means that you're taking a course designed with learning in mind WITH someone who cares about your success. Research says that goes a long way.
But you'll have to show up too, and not quit if it gets a little challenging; instead, ask for help.
